Gayle, no stranger to sales, broke into the thoroughbred business initially through her involvement in 2-yr-old-in-training sales. In 1998 Gayle had her first consignment in many years at the Del Mar Yearling Sale. Changes in the distribution of California incentive awards and the take out tax relief bill that went into effect in 1998, make this the best time ever to own a California bred horse. Additionally account wagering became a reality on January 1, 2001 which will grow our purses even more. With these improved opportunities and additional purse bonuses, the demand for quality Cal-Breds is stronger than ever. The demand was evident by the results of the 2001 Del Mar yearling sale which included a 37% upswing in average price over the 2000 sale. The 2001 sale averaged $43,663 up from $31,915 in 2000 and $36,798 in 1999. The median price was $31,500. In 2002 in a tough market the sale held its own with an average of $43,770 and a medium of $32,000. Changes have been made for the 2004 renewal of this sale after disappointing results overall in 2003. A smaller, more select group will be sold at a one day sale to be conducted in the saddling paddock of the beautiful Del Mar Race Track. The sale was last held at the Del Mar racetrack in 1995. The Del Mar Horse Park has been its home for the past eight years. The yearlings will be stabled in the adjacent Del Mar Arena and will be available for viewing Friday August 13, Saturday August 14, Sunday August 15, and Monday August 16, prior to the Sale. We think our 2004 consignment is pretty special. Click here for more information. |
