Nick Alexander’s homebred mare Enola Gray has officially been retired from racing, according to drf.com, and will be bred in 2019. The 5-year-old daughter of Alexander’s stallion Grazen won six stakes races over her career, including the Grade 3 Wilshire at Santa Anita at a mile on the turf.

“It was one thing after another,” said trainer Phil D’Amato. “She had something come up.”

Out of Unsung Heroine, by More Than Ready, Enola Gray won seven of her 12 career starts to earn $585,100. She made an impressive debut in 2016, winning by 16 1/4 lengths, then followed up that effort with back-to-back statebred stakes triumphs. Grade 1 placed in late 2016, her dam was purchased by GVLTS for her breeder at the 2007 Keeneland November Sale.
