AMERICAN THEOREM

American Theorem First win on 8-31-19 at Del Mar Racetrack
First win on 8-31-19 at Del Mar Racetrack

Thrilled with how AMERICAN THEOREM won his first start at Del Mar on August 31. He had been training fabulously and lived up to those expectations with an impressive score over a much hyped field. It just gets more exciting from here. His next appearance is likely the Grade 1 $300,000 American Pharoah Stakes at Santa Anita on September 27. The irony of the potential for a son of American Pharoah winning the American Pharoah Stakes adds a special twist to the excitment. A big congratulations to his connections, owner Kretz Racing LLC and his trainer George Papaprodromou along with his hard working crew. View more news about American Theorem

At 4 he notched the G3 Eddie D Stake in an exciting closing finish. The same year he was also 3rd in the G2 Eddie Read Stake at Del Mar. At 5 he continued to be productive for his original connections Kretz Racing LLC and trainer George Papaprodromou. MAJOR CABBIE

An impressive maiden winner in his 2nd start in the fall of his 2 yr old year for client Sareen Family Trust, he then needed some time off and didn’t return to the races again until the fall of 2018. This son of leading sire Into Mischief was then tried on the turf with some success, he then needed time off again. Moved to the barn of trainer Peter Miller in May of 2019 he scored an impressive allowance win at Del Mar on 7/28/19 back on the dirt. The hope is that his problems are now behind him and the potential he showed at 2 will finally lead him to becoming a stakes winner.

An easy winner of the 2016 G2 San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita that win placed him solidly on the Kentucky Derby trail. Sadly for his connections, Derby winning dreams did not play out. After some time off, at 4 he racked up 3 wins including the G2 San Carlos and the G3 Lone Star Park H. Touted as an early choice for the Breeders’ Cup Sprint those dreams were dashed by an injury that brought his career to and end in the summer of his 4yr old year. His dam was purchased at the Keeneland November Breeding stock sale for $50,000 by GVLTS for his breeder Ted Aroney/Halo Farms who raced him in partnership with Jim and Diane Bashor. He began his stallion career at Rancho San Miguel in 2018. Looking forwarding to seeing his progeny race in 2021! Congratulations to all his connections!

Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer and his partners Rancho San Miguel and George Todaro raced this daughter of champion leading sire Distorted Humor after her purchase in the 2003 Keeneland September sale on the recommendation of GVLTS. A multiple G1 winner, she gave them untold thrills at racing’s highest levels including wins in the G1 Humana Distaff (twice) at Churchill Downs, G2 Molly Pitcher,  G3 Azeri, along with placing in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff, G1 Vanity Invitational H., and the G1 Lady’s Secret.  They later sold her at the 2008 Keeneland November sale for $3,000,000 to Darley Stud. To date she has produced stakes winner LADY MONTDORE (2014 F, by Medaglia d’Oro to 8/2/19, G2 winner of $314,356) and three other winners.

WIN THE SPACE training for the Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita. (GVL photo)

Win The Space showed potential all along, enough that he was shipped to Oaklawn Park for a try in the G1 Arkansas Derby as a maiden off of two 3rd place finishes. He ran credibly, but he, along with the rest of the field that day, were no match for American Pharoah. Bad luck and missteps seemed to haunt him the rest of his 3 yr old year as well as into 4, however he still pulled off a 2nd in the G1 Gold Cup at Santa Anita and a 3rd in the G1 Awesome Again Stakes also at Santa Anita. Slated for another year of racing at 5, he was retired after a surgery to repair a splint bone fracture went wrong. It was a fun ride for client Kretz Racing LLC and their trainer George Papaprodromou.  From the last crop of the sire of sires stallion Pulpit, he currently is standing at stud at Milky Way Farm in Temecula California.

WOW what a story she has turned out to be! Purchased by Gayle Van Leer at the 1999 Keeneland November Sale as a Racing or Broodmare prospect for her long time client RL Stable, she successfully continued on her racing career parlaying her 4 previous allowance starts into placing in multiple stakes. Not being breeders at the time, RL Stables chose to sell her privately as a broodmare prospect at the end of her racing career. From there she developed into truly a “blue hen” broodmare for Zayat Stables producing E Z WARRIOR winner of the G3 Hollywood Juvenile Championship S. as well as placing in the G1 King’s Bishop (earned $238,468), A Z WARRIOR who won the G1 Frizette Stakes at Belmont Park and placed in the G1 Santa Anita Oaks for earning $286,906, then was sold as a broodmare prospect for $1,250,000 in 2011, JOJO WARRIOR winner of the G2 Summertime Oaks and the G3 Torrey Pines S. (earned $396,231) at Del Mar, and J Z WARRIOR stakes winner of $342,123 who was sold in as a broodmare prospect for $1,125,000.  A dream story of a broodmare hands down!

ROYAL F J at Santa Anita (Benoit Photo)

Yes you read that correctly,102 starts! Originally purchased for the La Canada Stable he changed hands multiple times and but finished off his career back with his original trainer, Jack Carava. Retired at age 10 after a remarkable career, you have got to love these kind of horses! He tried every time and usually picked up a check each start. Third in the 2010 G2 Del Mar Derby, his lifetime earnings would be much higher but not for his constant “seconditis”. He is currently enjoying his time as an OTTB.

FEROCIOUS broke his maiden at Santa Anita very impressively. He came back in the first allowance condition going 7f and dusted an impressive field winning by 2 1/2 lengths then followed that up with a 3rd place finish in the G3 Lazaro Barrera Stake. Sent to the sidelines for an extended period he sadly did not return to his previous form. High hopes were riding on the Kretz Racing LLC and trainer Ron Ellis team. Heart breaking business indeed.

RUNAWAY DANCER in the paddock at Del Mar (GVL photo)

The exploits of RUNAWAY DANCER for RL Stable and their trainer Dan Hendricks along with the fact that he was grey and stayed in training to age 9 made him everyone’s favorite including general racing fans. Purchased by Gayle Van Leer and also managed for his connections, he found his place in distance races on the turf. As long as he had his annual time off, this horse was a model of consistency racing from age 3-9. Along the way he won the the G2 Sunset Handicap, G3 Jim Murray Handicap, G3 Carleton F. Burke Handicap,  Escondido Handicap as well as placing in the G2Del Mar Handicap, G3 Jim Murray Handicap, G1 Hollywood Turf Cup, G2 Sunset Breeders’ Cup Handicap and the G3 San Juan Capistrano Handicap. Read Jay Hovdey’s endearing column about RL Stable written after the 2005 Jim Murray Handicap. Runaway Dancer is now enjoying his second career as a much loved OTTB.
